First Grade News
We had a great time during Lutheran Schools Week, thanks for your continued support. We have many great things at Zion and you are one of them!
Spelling words for next week will be random review words; here’s a big hint the days of the week and the number words one-ten (or at least most of them) will re-appear next week!
For memory next week we will be working as a class on reciting the first five books of the Bible.
Reminder; No school on Tuesday or Friday of next week.
I will not be sending a note home next week.
Parent/Teacher conference time sheets will be sent home next Tuesday and report cards next Wednesday.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Jaynes

A reminder; the yellow extra credit reading sheets are due on Friday mornings.
Don’t forget next Wednesday is the roller skating party at the Wagon Wheel. If you can come and help tie roller skates I would greatly appreciate it. We will be arriving at the rink around 12:15. If your child has roller blades they may bring them. Your child must know their shoe size and they must have socks on to skate! The concession stand and video games will be open and available if you choose to send money with your child (they are responsible for the money). You will pick your child up at the rink at 2:30.
Next Friday we will exchange Valentines and have a special snack; if you would like to send in a snack for the class that would be fine.
Spelling words for next week are review words.
Memory for next week; Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37
11:30 release next Friday for teacher in-service. No school Monday February 15th due to Presidents Day.
We will begin Iowa Tests of Basic Skills on Tuesday February 16th. More information in next weeks Friday note.

No memory or spelling words next week.
Reminder; no school next Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
We will not be sending home a class note or the Friday folder next week.
Please continue to work on the sight words, math flashcards, counting change and telling time to the hour. Add oral reading to the mix and your child will have a lifetime of success!
In today’s Friday folder I sent home the entire Dolch sight word list number 1. By the end of first grade your child should quickly, recognize these words and be able to spell at least 85% of them. Your child is tested orally on these words two times per month.
On Thursday, December 3rd, we will continue our Social Studies unit on the 50 states by learning about California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Delaware. If you have any postcards or other special items from those states, your child may bring them to share on that Thursday. These items will be taken care of and returned to you.
We are very blessed to have you and your child (children) as part of the Zion Family. Thank you for your continued support, and help. Have a happy, blessed Thanksgiving.
In his service,
Miss Schulteis and Mrs. Jaynes
